Sensorimotor Integration Across Species
1933 - 1961
Across senses, researchers mapped peripheral receptors through spinal transmission to thalamic and cortical processing in visual and somatosensory systems across species. Cellular and single-neuron mechanisms of sensory transduction were detailed, and brain-state modulation of processing through arousal and anesthetic states was demonstrated. Developmental and comparative proprioception and reflex circuits across taxa provided a unifying framework for how sensory signals guide movement.
